The Society of Wood Engravers - 76th Annual Exhibition
Burton Art Gallery
7/26/2014 to 9/15/2014
Mon-Sat: 10am-4pm; Sun: 11am-4pm. Free admission.
The exhibition includes over 150 pieces drawn from artists across the UK, United States, Canada and Europe, with a special selection of relief prints from Japan.
Founded in 1920 by a group of artists that included Philip Hagreen, Robert Gibbings, Lucien Pissaro, Gwen Raverat and Eric Gill, essentially, the society is an artists' exhibiting society existing to promote the art of wood engraving. There are about seventy members, all of whom are practising artists who have been elected or invited to membership on merit. The exhibition, stringently selected from an open submission, exhibits the best of current work from Britain and other countries.
