9/7/2013 to 9/29/2013
Weekends only, 11.30am-4.30pm
As part of Open Studios we hold "Outside", an exhibition in the grounds of Cuckoo Farm.
This year we invited artists to respond to the theme 'Oasis'. The Farm is a place which provides artists with space to develop their work away from the hustle and bustle of day to day life, and is often referred to as an ‘Oasis.’
The buildings were once part of a large farm and gardens which originally provided food for patients of the neighbouring former Severalls Psychiatric hospital, many of whom also worked on the farm. Land adjoining is still used for arable crops by the tenant farmer, but has reduced in acreage considerably over the past few years due to development and road building. The A12 speeds past the boundary fence. A park and ride is planned to the other side, effectively surrounding the farm.
To open an ongoing programme, celebrating the site and its current and former use, we would like to invite you to view the work by Angie Bowles, Clare Iles, Janette Lazell, Karina Carrington, Rebecca Jordan and Val Mollison who responded to this theme and celebrate our unique position.
