Statement

A painter and printmaker, I often find my painting feeds into my printmaking and vice versa. Personal, cultural or historical subjects are usually the inspiration for my work. I use my drawings, life studies or photographs as a starting point and, by changing colours and using the effects of the medium to develop the composition, I try to create an interesting ambiguity in the final piece. I love diversity and enjoy experimenting with different techniques and styles. In the last year or so, departing from my usual semi-abstract style of bold colours and broad strokes, I have relied on memories, photographs and my experience of life drawing to produce a series of striking yet sensitive paintings, drawings and prints portraying tango dancers and musicians.
