Statement

Artists Statement.

As a contemporary landscape artist I want my painting to be expressive and inspire the feeling of the landscape, leaving detail images for photography.

Painting to me is like music it is inspired, has feeling and tells a story, leaves even more to the imagination.  It’s not what you say it’s what you don’t say!  Paintings are the same, the enjoyment comes from an imagination. Emotion inspired for both the artist and viewer.

Most of my work is acrylic on canvas. Bright strong colour with contrast, painting much of the work with a pallet knife to achieve texture and capture atmosphere and vitality .

The West Coast of Scotland is the big inspiration  -  I could not envisage running out of subject to paint, the light is different throughout the day.  I cannot go there and not want to paint.

My paintings start with a sketch and numerous photographic reference pictures I take on my "inspirational trips" around Scotland. I paint considering the memory of some scene, possibly the effect of the light, giving mood and colour to the painting.
My acrylic paintings are on canvas, some are deep edge box canvas therefore not requiring a frame.
My paintings are dispatched by post.
I hope you enjoy my art and call back again to the site to view any new work. Thank you to those of you who have an original of my art in their home.
If you see something you like but possibly in a different colour or size please let me know.
