Blue Grass Pathway

Blue Grass Pathway

In parallel with other photographic work and my Found String project, I have developed a series of paintings focussing on that which I could not photograph—in other words, an essential, emotional response to a place. Through their scale and particular application of paint, their tactility recalls the environment of Hemerdon Mine in which they originated.
For this purpose, I used cutting-discs found in Hemerdon Mine along with pallet knives and other found objects to apply the paint, a practice which I continue to use today.

Statement

I am a full-time, degree educated (Fine art) practicing artist with a studio on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, with many sales in the UK, USA, China and Australia

I live and work in a beautiful part of the country, and take inspiration from that. I choose to interpret this, not necessarily by painting the topographical, but instead finding the ordinary to describe the extraordinary. I like to explore these, they are often far from being simple and uninspiring. I find there is a natural poeticism, look closely and you will find a complex tapestry of colour, texture, light and shade.
