Down to the sea

Down to the sea

Acrylic on canvas

Introduction

I find the wildness of the rugged coasts of Ireland, North Devon and Cornwall inspiring with the ever changing mood and pattern of the sea and paint directly from the landscape to fix the initial mood and feeling .They are finished or disarded later in the studio .

The colour in these paintings is strong and expressive and reflects my own feelings for nature and landscape. In contrast  am also attracted to intimate views of nature such as above the waterfall.

My other work relates to personal narratives arising from the stuff of life. inspired by history, mythology and ancient art it is quite different to the landscape work that is painted from nature but imaginative and another side of m character.

Statement

My recent work is concerned with  landscape near to me and my feelings about it which i try to express in colour, light and marks.

I also make personal work around stories and life situations often using animals as a metaphor for human beings.
