Funded Residency, Research and Development Opportunity for UK & Internationally-

Battersea Arts Centre and dramaturg/researcher Duška Radosavljević from the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama are collaborating on a research project designed to explore ways in which performance works that have an emphasis on speech and sound are created.

As part of this we are hosting a funded research and development residency for 2 UK-based artists and 1 artist based outside of the UK, to evolve a new piece of performance with an emphasis on speech and sound.

This call is aimed at theatre-makers, live artists, musicians, sound artists and makers of any performance using speech and/or sound as its main focus. This could be but isn’t limited to headphones theatre, storytelling that uses sound technology, gig theatre, post-verbatim theatre, poetry and spoken word performance or sound installations.

We are looking for applications from all sectors of the artistic community including D/deaf and disabled people, trans and/or non-binary people, migrants and artists from other underrepresented, diverse and ethnic minority backgrounds.

If you’re an artist who enjoys working in a collaborative way and you’re interested in developing a performance project using speech and/or sound as its main focus, we’d love for you to apply.

• An outline of the project (max 2 pages/1000 words OR via a Vimeo link to a recorded video, max 6 min. (It is free to upload a video to Vimeo but you will need to create an account.)
• Maximum 3 additional sound or visual files of relevance to this work
• A two-page CV
• Let us know if you have any access requirements we can support for completing your application or for attendance at an interview panel should you be selected
