'Between Land and Sea' - Norfolk Broads sailing residency

Deadline

26/05/2017

Details

Norfolk Broads, 27 - 29th May 2017

Sail Britain is returning to our old haunt of the Norfolk Broads with a long weekend of sailing, exploring and sharing stories.

Our trips focus on sailing and exploring from an arts perspective, and aim to encourage an individual creative response to place and experience.

Sail Britain engages people with our coastline to produce a body of work comprised of reflection and inspiration based on the landscapes, places and ideas we explore and the experience of sailing together. This trip is an opportunity to learn to sail, meet new people from different backgrounds, and simply enjoy spending a weekend away in the wild.

The Norfolk Broads is a fascinating area of reedbeds and wetlands just inland from the beautiful Norfolk coastline. We will be sailing on traditional Norfolk ‘half-deckers’ which are open boats perfectly suited for exploring the winding narrows and broads of this beautiful area. We will also have an opportunity to visit the nearby Norfolk coastline with it’s colonies of seals. This will be an outdoors trip, sleeping will be in the boats under a canopy and in tents on the riverbank, or if you fancy it and weather permits, under the stars!

As with all our trips, no prior experience of sailing is necessary, the skipper and first mate will show you the ropes and get you involved in sailing the boat, and will be able to answer all your questions on navigation, seamanship and sailors knots!

In terms of kit, think of it as similar to a camping trip. The boats are traditional open designs and we won't know what the weather will hold until a few days before. You'll need to bring both warm and waterproof clothing, a sleeping bag, and an intrepid mindset!

There is a trip fee of £150 to cover expenses which includes delicious food underway and all boat related costs, but not other personal expenses ashore if you so wish.
