Valentines

Valentines

A small but select showcase of beautiful jewellery, textiles and ceramics marking this romantic time of year. The Craft Centre and Design Gallery offers a different perspective on the choice of items that can be purchased for that special someone in your life bringing elegance and beauty together which evoke sentimental flavours.

Our showcases of 5 jewellers are all wonderful designers who have been selected for creating something unique and special in their work. The delicacy of Elizabeth Chamberlain’s contemporary designs are beautifully executed with precious metals and have been inspired by organic textures. Marion Barclay has innovatively combined printing and colouring techniques with her fascination for pattern to create wonderfully bold and colourful anodised aluminium jewellery. Another jeweller exploring pattern and colour is Anne Morgan. Her new collection incorporates Washi paper, which is lacquered and inlaid into silver. Suzanne Smith’s quirky jewellery is inspired by the tradition of taking afternoon tea. Vintage charms of dainty teacups with decorative aspects of pretty cakes come together to create contemporary jewellery. Our final jewellery collection comes from a collaboration of two designers, Bryony Burn and Ben Woodcock, both established in their respective disciplines of ceramics and jewellery. Their charming jewellery is made from textured coloured porcelain and polished silver and is delicately delightful.

Eight other designers are involved in this striking showcase providing visitors with an array of works in ceramics
and textiles.
Andrea Cundell’s ceramics give a great sense of pattern and texture which have been inspired by nature, a wonderful decorative collection, as too is the ceramic work of Vanessa Chen whose work is simple and has a real sense of rhythm. Beautifully decorated with illustrations of flowers and domestic objects Lowri Davies creates ceramic jugs and cups in a whimsical manner. Also very decorative are Bethan Lloyd-Worthington’s slip cast earthenware. Gilded rims and illustrative drawings of bedtime stories and travels bring the work to life superbly. Catherine Ball’s stitched ceramic vessels are delicately executed and very unique. Bridget Davies’ elegant and feminine home furnishings and accessories mix appliqué, machine embroidery and hand embroidery and Anne Crowther’s intriguing textiles are made from fine woollen and linen yarns, embellished with reclaimed fabrics. Darren Deardon creates contemporary canvasses that are fresh and quirky. Hand stitched texture and elements of mixed media are introduced to accentuate aspects of the design.
Come and explore this beautiful and charming showcase, perfect for this romantic time of year!
