Introduction

The paintings on display are only a part of my catalogue I paint in fits and starts when the mood takes me. Due to recent encouragment and success and in view I am not getting any younger I am planning this year to devote all my time to painting and travelling. I hope that you get something from my paintings and please feel free to comment. God Bless you.

Statement

I am an artist who has had no formal training and only a little instruction. I have only recently started painting again after a twenty year absence. During this time I was following a spiritual path.  My work comes from a need to create what I feel instinctively from within. I hold certain beleifs that the illogical can somtimes hold greater truth than the logical.

My own experiences of life have been varied and I have never followed the conventional path but have always had a strong faith in God which I know is not in vogue at the present time but...... He has shown me many times that modern day rationale can cloud our thoughts and feelings from the real meaning of life.

Hopefully my work conveys this especially as I never have any idea of what I am about to paint when I start.

Biography

Russell was born in 1950 in Cambridge, England. On leaving school after a few years in his home town he decided to go to London where he lived and worked for a number of years in various jobs. It was a time of discovering new horizons and he taught himself to play guitar and harmonica while also 'giving painting a go' as he puts it He is also something of a magician which he took up at an early age.

Although most of the times he spent in London were happy enough he felt their was something missing in his life so in 1976 he decided to leave the hustle and bustle of city life and went to work on a farm.

Life was very basic and sometimes hard but Russell found an inner peace working with and around nature and caring for the animals.  He also found his soul mate and they became husband and wife and lived happlily together for twelve years in an idyllic life.

When tragically his wife passed away through illness, Russell decided to return to his hometown of Cambridge in the mid nineties. He struggled to adjust to the pace of modern life and by way of relaxation he once again turned to music and painting

Until 2005 Russell never thought he could describe himself as an artiist or that anyone would ever be interested in any of his work but on attending a few art classes he was encouraged by others to submit some of his paintings and mono prints and in 2007 he was chosen to take part in an exhibition in Beijing China organised by Tang Chenghua who personally commented favourably on Russel's two mono prints 'Rocking' and 'Building By Rythm'.

An exhibition in his hometown Cambridge of  3 paintings and the two mono prints took place in 2010 and after this Russell decided that he would devote more time to his painting and offer his works for sale.

Russell now has over 80 paintings and has just finished an abstract of Monica Dupont, the legendary blues singer.
