Introduction

Hello and welcome....

Thankyou for coming along to check out my work. There is work here that belongs to my HIV Based Collection titled 'The Museum of the loss of Practicality + other Peculiarities!!!'

These pieces sometimes started out as Useful Readymades...I rendered them useless in that they are no longer practical but they have been reborn into ornately alluring and sometimes a little vulgar and original  'One Offs'....

I am constantly coming up with new ways to represent ideas and materials to use....some work as well in the flesh as they did from my head to the piece of paper and then sometimes they take a few more tweaks to get just right.

Constantly evolving as life does.

The Other collection of work is based on TAXATION on Feminine Health Products...as they are classed as Luxury items!!!

Angered by this I decided to make Luxury items out of the products.

I hope you have enjoyed the visit and please come again.

Art is Life, Life is Art

I am currently working on a HUGE project 'The RED RIBBON DRESS' this is a remake of a piece of work made back in 2004/5. The original piece was a sculptural work and unfortunately due to being moved around for Exhibitions it got damaged so no longer exists but I have been able to salvage a few of the original Red Ribbons which will now be attached to the Dress. The Dress is to raise awareness and is for people to dedicate each of the Ribbons to someone they know who mave have died due to HIV/AIDS or for someone they know living with this disease or even themselves. Also for the public to write as many dedications as possible. This is a Legacy piece of work that highlights and remembers those who have died and to the many still surviving this ugly disease and also to remind everyone how this disease can infect/affect any one of us!

These dedications are in the form of a piece of card 3x3" with the Name and any message. All these messages/dedications are to be put into a book that will accompany the Dress when it is being exhibited. The book is based on one of the original Quilt Panels obviously not six foot by 3 foot but 60x30cm. It is a Portrait of many names/not faces but to keep these names alive.

If you are intersted in dedicating a Name and want more information, then feel free to contact me and I will get back to you with details asap.

I have stitched 4558 Red individual Ribbons so far and will continue as once the Dress is made ready for the application of these ribbons, I know for full impact that many more will be called upon as in this case 'Less is Definately not More!!!'

Once this Dress is completed It is hoped that it will be exhibited around the Country.

Statement

My work involves a lot about my personal experiences of living as an HIV Positive woman and the ignorance I have encountered. Thoughtless, ignorant remarks have sometimes upset and angered me but have also inspired me to create art work to raise awareness of this disease.

I have been inspired by Marcel Duchamp and Meret Oppenheim and their use of 'Readymades'. I wanted to go that little bit further and adorn items that have either been issued personally to myself via the health service and sometimes totally impractical!

The pieces I create are often bright and decorative from a distance but on getting up close reveal a deeper and darker meaning pertaining to the mediums I have used. Some people may feel a little uncomfortable in their prescence...Often very similar to the reaction I get when I disclose my HIV Positive status.

Not only is my work about my HIV Positive status. I have another collection of work that has been inspired by Taxation on Feminine Sanitary Products as these are classed as 'LUXURY' items when in fact they are a Neccessity!!! Many of the pieces have actually been made from Panty Pads and been turned into 'LUXURY' Products!!! Still thought provoking and always with a little dark Humour attached.
