Introduction

Statement

'IRELAND'

This  body of work entitled 'IRELAND' depicts abstract impressionist  landscapes of the West of Ireland ,centreing on and around Achill Island and Clew Bay,where I have been visiting family each year for the past 40 plus years.

The dramatic changing weather, sometimes bleak and ferociously wild, often pushes the landscape and colours to crazy extremes. Many tones and proportions are exaggerated and distorted to emphasize these changing elements. The broad brush strokes, where pigments cross and tangle, form a strong direction, and the impression of movement.

Biography

2010

Born: Manchester, June 1947

I never considered being a painter !

As an alternative to Art School, I went straight into a  design house as a Junior. I spent 6 to 12 months in each department  learning in detail all the necessary skills in finished art, design, typography, hand lettering, screen-printing, as well as production and account handling. This enabled me to 'carve out ' a career path

Like many others I was distracted by promotions to higher rungs of the career ladder, sacrificing my true love of painting, which naturally means I have much catching up to do!

It was only in the last few years I decided to concentrate  more seriously on my painting. Totally inspired by my love of The west of ireland, italy and latterly Australia!
