Introduction

Statement

I work with watercolours mixed with colour pencils and acrylics on canvas and normally work spontaneously even when I have a theme to work with.

My paintings are rooted in my subconscious and often influenced by  my upbringing in Iran with a layer of mystery and magic.

I love extremes and like to combine them with unusual settings which gives my work a surreal quality which is usually very real for me . The mysteries and mythologies influence me strongly and  my sense of humour always finds a way even if its very subtle.

Women are the main subjects and animals such as fishes are commonly present. Sometimes I see some of the works as self portrait as my personality is present in all the works and  the different moods connecting to phases of my life is present.

Recently I'm mainly focusing on my personal journey from when I arrived in London to present day and producing series of self portraits based on my experiences. All the recent works are in acrylic on canvas and they have grown in size massively  .

Biography

I studied Graphic Design at Azad University in Tehran ,Iran.
while studying I developed a style which was identifiable by viewers.

I had my first solo exhibition in 2001 at Haft Samar gallery in Tehran  and was selected for a group show by 10 Iranian female painters in Brussels on the same year . I had my last solo exhibition at Haft Samar on 2002 and moved to  the UK  shortly after hoping to start a career  in Graphic Design but soon realised that I have very little interest in this field and explored  different areas such as performance and theatre but currently my main focus is back on paintings.

I have been involved with many community art projects and cultural events such as Edinburgh Iranian Festival and Museum At Night events at The London Canal Museum and have been an exhibiting artist in UK and internationally.
