Tree Movement

Tree Movement

Part of an ongoing project ‘Retracing the Ground’, longlisted for the John Ruskin Prize 2014. A series of works on paper, a metaphoric and figurative expression of materiality, embodiment and identity through the exploration of a wooded landscape.

Charcoal and pencil on pergamenata

Introduction

Issues of engagement within a forest landscape, in terms of ‘sense of self’ and ‘sense in place’. The work is site-responsive using the media of drawing, painting and digital photography.

Statement

I am not concerned with reproducing an ‘obvious visible’ ‘but an emerging invisible’, that comes from the act of painting and drawing, and the dialogue that develops between the paint and painter. It is the observation and thought between the obvious, that result in the making of work.
