Statement
I often focus on animals or people as subject matter, mainly using acrylic paint as a medim applied to either canvas or wood as the support.
A large part of the challenge for me is to try to convey the mood and charactor of the subject while experimenting with the numerous possibilities o involving composition, colour, markmaking and the textural quality of paint itself.
The saticefaction is found on entering each new project as it often leads to new variations of colours, texture and markmaking.The rewards are endless, from stumbling on new techniques and using new tools, to developing the art of allowing some illustrative drips and flicks!
I am influenced by artists such as J.M. Basquiat, Arnulf Rainer, Hanselm Kiefer, Cindy Sherman, Damion Hirst, Ralph Steadman, David Hughes, Helen Ward, Pieter Pander, Cathy De Monchaux, John Lathon, Kurt Huntervasser, Jessica Stockholder.
My ambitions include working on a large scale public art project, doing some kind of editorial illustration and painting my interpretation of some well known puplic figures!
