Introduction

Statement

I have been a visual artist for many years working mainly with printmaking. Particularly interested in my local environment and its natural history, I increasingly see the need to remind myself and my audience of its intrinsic value.

My work is held in several public collections such as those of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Dartington Hall Trust and Oxford University. I have exhibited in commercial and public galleries across the UK since 1990 and my prints can always be seen at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen's Riverside Mill Gallery in Bovey Tracey, Devon. The Devon village of Harbertonford where I live and work holds its own arts trail every two years, when members of the local community participate in various ways.

The potential of art to promote healing enables artists to contribute to society through its installation in hospitals and surgeries. I am always delighted when asked to provide work for this purpose .

From 2008 - 2010 I studied for an MA in Fine Art. This gave me the chance to reinvigorate and develop my practice in a more thoughtful way. My focus fell on oak trees and their complex ecology; some of the enquiries I made during that time appear on this website - e.g. the scrolls of names, the Oak Primer book and the large drawing of the oak tree cross-section. The more straightforward prints and drawings such as those of plants and landscapes use a different language perhaps, but both of these voices are mine.
