Introduction

Statement

My art is my visual voice, my deepest response to the world. It changes and progresses intuitively in the moment. I paint often with earth as well as other paints using whatever is at hand, I make sculpture figures and installations with recycled and natural materials and move my art into mask sculpture dance performance with visual myth and story...sometimes i like to wrap, hide and reveal the unexpected in appreciayion of life's extradordinary complexity of existance!

In my art I challenge myself to use what is around me. I often use Devon earth as my paint as where I live is rich with different earth colours. I have noticed that earth colours are the colours of peoples' skin from all the nations of the world. For me the earth paint is a metaphor and a reminder that we are people of earth. We are earth-kind… well a bit more of the kind would be good!

Having always been interested in movement, expressing a sense of movement in my paintings sometimes literal movement and sometimes the idea of change of transformation or 'moving ' as in a feeling that arises. these are also what informs many of my sculptures and having made large figures for parades i now seek to bring all these into performance using mask-dance, slow moving sculpture, a visual poem a way to combine all my aspects of art.

Thank you for looking.

My childhood experience of going to live in rural India when I was quite young had an enormous impact on my way of seeing and being in the world. My work is intuitive, I just start and see what comes sometimes its completed very quikly and sometimes it develpoes and changes over long stretches of time mapping changes that are happening within myself through changes of colour, shape and subjects, its about being aware of deep problems and deep wonders. Life is such a range of emotions and experience and sometimes painting and making sculpture and dance puts it right! Over the years I have done a lot of art and dance projects and workshops in schools and communities, carnivals and festivals. This has stretched my work to doing very large pieces and inclusive ideas.

In my more personal work I often use earth as my paint , the ground of my being that underlyes life.

I am intersted in myth, story and movement literally and metaphorically.and love a touch of humour.
