Introduction

My artwork is a response to the simplicity and complexity of 'Place' - what it is and how we might experience it. In order to create my work I use a wide range of materials and sources.I collect items which inspire or later become part of the work. These are placed in my studio which acts as a kind of laboratory where I experiment with ideas. At any given time there might be drawings on paper, photographs, paintings, short films, found objects and small figurines made of wax or cast in metal. As I create my art , fragments of the real and imagined become fused together resulting in dreamlike compositions - part familiar , part strange. Within the work I consider the role of communication and technology and their effect on the perceptual and cognitive experience of the world. Both 2D and 3D work is combined , bringing together disparate objects in order to create a sense od dislocation and/or estrangement. The relationship between interior and exterior worlds is at the heart ofmy practice - raising questions as to how the world is simultaneously perceived and imagined. Usually created as a series or as an installation - the relationship between the works is very important.Sometimes paintings become objects - set in a window or painted onto unusual surfaces.Other times , small vignettes are created using figurines or models positioned with appropriated material or ready-mades. To date my practice has included exhibitions and curating group shows. In 2013 I was shortlisted for the Art Republic Award (final 5) and the Threadneedle Prize - both based in London UK. My work is held in collections in the USA and the UK.
