Introduction

I make paintings that do not distinguish themselves from sculpture. In their own way they each try to fit into the world, which isn’t necessarily upon the wall. By experiment with the structure of the stretcher and treating the painting as an object (as opposed to a surface or an image) my paintings inhabit everyday spaces which are often overlooked, such as underneath tables, in washing up bowls or just simply leaning against the wall. The relationship between painting as an object in relation to space is fundamental to the work I make. Deconstructing what painting 'is' is a key theoretical focus in my practice; this means that certain histories and traditions must be upheld and respected whilst being challenged at the same time.
